Are you frazzled trying to produce high-quality programming on dimes or nothing at all? Relief is here! This workshop will cover practical programming ideas and amazing, budget-friendly, hands-on crafting sessions presented by members of the ILA Youth Services and Young Adult Services Forums. The morning session will focus on children’s programming topics and the afternoon session is geared for teen programming. Register for one or both of these fabulous sessions today!

Lunch is not included in the registration fee for the workshops. An additional $10.00 will be collected on the day of the workshop for those interested in ordering lunch from Faustos Italian Kitchen in Arlington Heights or you may bring a sack lunch.

 A fast-paced, triple-header book-a-thon and information sharing workshop guaranteed to delight, enchant, and intrigue!  Rick Brannert, Book Farm Representative and professional magician brings news of marvelous ideas as well as tricks to mystify; Caitlyn Schaffer, Youth Dept. Bookseller-Barnes & Noble, presents intriguing new titles for children; and Larry Pennie, Retired Educator/Benjamin Franklin specialist, showcases humorous picture books for all ages!   Attendees will receive handouts and interaction is encouraged!

A light lunch of chicken salad or egg salad on croissants will be served and is included in the registration price.

SOUTH: Early Literacy: Two Practical Approaches

Dr. Stephanie McAndrews, Literacy Program Director at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, will present the topic, “Strategies for Engaging Children in Authentic Language and Literacy Experiences.” Attendees will learn how and why to use specific strategies, including interactive read alouds, to develop children’s language and literacy. Anne Wolfe, Youth Librarian for Edwardsville Public Library and Every Child Ready to Read certified instructor, will present on the Every Child Ready to Read program. Attendees will learn both the theory behind the initiative and will participate in hands-on activities designed to assist in practical application.
